Good Counsel Coach Karen Kart entered the volleyball season knowing what to expect of two senior starters -- All-Met outside hitter Becky West and Brighid Casey, who most coaches agree are two of the best players in the region. What Kart wasn't sure of was how her underclassmen would fare.
The Falcons' middle blockers and libero were sophomores playing new positions, and Good Counsel's success ultimately hinged on how quickly they adapted. By the end of the regular season, Kart no longer had questions.
Meagan Donohoe, Francesca Emmanuele and Stephanie Minite were at ease as they played key roles in the Falcons winning a third straight WCAC championship, a second consecutive City Championship and their third Maryland/D.C. private schools title in four years. Good Counsel went 28-0 and is 53-2 over the past two seasons. "As good as Becky and Brighid are, they couldn't have done this alone," Kart said after Good Counsel defeated Flint Hill in five games in the City Championship. "This team really has showed an ability to dig down and have the mental wherewithal to come back from everything they've faced."
