For Good Counsel, "2 Outta 3 Ain't Bad"

champtrophy As Meat loaf once said "2 Outta 3 Ain't Bad" and in this case it is Championships. The Falcons had another great season this year, extending their win streak to 76 in the WCAC, Winning the WCAC Championship for the 4th straight season and Finishing 2nd in the City Championships. Most coaches, players and fans would say that is great and start preparing for next season, not the Falcons as they continued their quest for their 4th MD/DC Private School Championship.

The Falcons battled their way thru the tournament with wins over Model and Covenant Community to enter the championship match against powerhouse Mount de Sales, which was undefeated (18-0) coming into the match. The Falcons came out with high intensity and looking for a little redemption, The front line of Good Counsel did exactly that blocking everything that was coming their way. This propelled the Falcons to a game 1 victory 25-18. In game 2 Mount de Sales showed why they were undefeated and it seemed that the Falcons let their intensity down and took a beating (14-25) to lose the 2nd game.

Did the Falcons use all their energy, intensity and desire to win in game 1?

In the 3rd game it went back and forth, with each team rallying, digging, blocking and killing. The fans were getting their moneys worth now, as it appeared neither team was going to leave anything on the court. Mount de Sales had a 26-25 lead and that is when Megan Donohoe and Jenna Campbell dug deep. After tying the score at 26, behind the serving of Jenna Campbell, the Falcons closed out the game 28-26.

Here it is, 1 more game for 1 more championship.

In game 4, Coach Kart told the team, The time is now, leave everything you have on that court. Jenna Campbell (15 Kills, 11 Digs, 3 Aces), Megan Donohoe (18 Kills, 9 Digs) and the rest of the Falcons did exactly that in another hard fought game that went down to the final serve. The Falcons won game 4 25-23 and captured the Private School Championship! The Falcons were not expected to do as well as they did this year considering the players that graduated last year, but this young team has one thing in common with past teams and that is a Heart of a Champion.
